About George Willborn

With an extraordinarily keen wit and a completely unrestricted approach when it comes to telling the truth about “what-is-funny,” George Willborn, a Chicago native, began his comedy routine at a Memphis comedy club, Sir Laughs A Lot in 1987. He got his first comedic break as the house MC at All Jokes Aside in 1992. All Jokes Aside is Chicago’s first primarily African American comedy club. He shared the stage and befriended comedy greats like Jamie Fox, Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey, just to name a few. During his seven year stint at All Jokes Aside, George became widely known as The Stress Reliever!!

He often quotes, “I’m here to relieve whose stress? Your stress!” The history of All Jokes Aside is depicted in the documentary DVD, Phunny Business: A Black Comedy (2011). Due to his vast popularity, George went on to perform on many comedy tours, national stage plays and various comedy clubs, including Improvs and Funny Bones, across the country. He’s secured television work on MTV’s The Real World (cast 1991); HBO’s Def Comedy Jam (performer 1992); BET’s ComicView (performer 1992); Showtime at the Apollo, (performer 1993) and many more.

He was also co-host on the nationally syndicated, Doug Banks Show, WVAZ V103 from 2pm – 6pm CST.

With over 20 years in radio, ranging from mornings in Chicago to afternoons in DC and several nationally syndicated programs, George has also found time to hone his acting crafts by studying under the likes of Chip Fields Hurd and Bill Duke. He is currently exercising all aspects of his wide range of talents from afternoons on WHUR radio, touring the country with his comedy, to writing and producing his own project “The Tragedies of Comedy," as well as landing a major role in the new upcoming Spike Lee JointChiraq.”
